Janine benyus, Co-founder

Janine Benyus is a founding member of the biomimicry movement, and is credited with coining the term biomimicry in her 1997 book, “Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature.” She has since inspired millions and has helped evolve the practice of biomimicry to become the innovation tool it is today, consulting with businesses and inspiring global audiences about what we can learn from the natural genius that surrounds us.


Dr. dayna baumeister, co-founder

Dr. Dayna Baumeister is a founding member of the biomimicry movement, and works daily as a biologist at the design table, helping clients consult the natural world for elegant and sustainable design solutions. Among other groundbreaking professional training programs, she designed and continues to lead the world’s first Biomimicry Professional Certificate program, a two-year immersion experience that integrates with an accredited Master’s of Science in Biomimicry degree through Arizona State University.

erin rovalo, senior principal

Coming from an architecture and green building background, Erin Rovalo weaves her design thinking expertise with the biomimicry approach to amplify the creativity needed to solve complex sustainability challenges. Erin has worked extensively in the built environment and beyond to include a wide range of design sectors and challenges, such as packaging design and organizational development.  She toggles between practice as a design consultant and academics as an instructor and PhD researcher.


Mark Dorfman, Principal

Mark Dorfman is a chemist and works on the premise that living organisms, by necessity, have developed sophisticated, highly effective, life-friendly chemistries that can inspire provocative, sustainable technology. Mark seeks out and applies the design principles of nature’s time tested chemical strategies to the development of innovative solutions to the toxic chemical and material challenges facing the 21st century.

Jamie Dwyer, Principal, Certified Biomimicry Professional

Jamie Dwyer is an architect and Certified Biomimicry Professional who seeks to transform the design framework by empowering designers with the tools of biomimicry. Her work has facilitated biomimicry in the built environment and industrial design, helping designers integrate biology into any level of their designs from form, process, to system.


Robyn Klein, Researcher

Robyn Klein is a an interdisciplinary plant biologist who integrates the fields of biology, plant sciences, design, engineering, and business to create ideas that enhance human relationships with the biological world. Then, she translates biological strategies and systems for mechanical engineers, product designers, chemists and architects.


Nicole Hagerman Miller, Managing Director

Nicole Hagerman Miller is a business innovator who has worked in both the public and private sector focusing on global business development and sustainability. At Biomimicry 3.8, she has overseen the development and launch of the first accredited Master’s of Science degree in biomimicry program in partnership with Arizona State University, the implementation of several strategic partnerships including with the International Living Future Institute, and has worked to bring biological intelligence-based solutions to a wide range of clients.


Jenna Cederberg, Marketing and Communications Specialist


Jenna Cederberg is a former journalist and editor who tells the story of biomimicry through compelling content that showcases the practice’s inspiring work.
